Dear CSCA Families,

We have been extremely busy and that will continue into October!  We have a lot happening in October, so it may be a good idea to mark your calendars.

Our class collected the most box tops for the month of September!!  Both classes were able to choose a prize.
AM chose a stuffed animal day.  This will be Thursday, October 18th.  AM kindergarten may bring ONE stuffed animal to school.
PM chose to have ice cream.  We enjoyed the ice cream on Friday!

October is when we have our first Parent/Teacher conferences.  These also coincide with our Fall Break.  It begins Wednesday, October 24th with a noon dismissal (AM 8-9:45am, PM 10:15-12noon).  There is NO SCHOOL Thursday, October 25th and Friday, October 26th.  Wednesday and Thursday will be conference days.  There will be a sign-up on the school’s website.  If you find there is not a time that works for you through the sign-up, then please let me know and I will see if there is another time we can work out to have a conference.

Included with your homework calendar this month is a calendar for a reading program called “Book It”.  This is a program to encourage reading at home.  If your student “reads” with someone for 10 minutes each day, you color the image on that date.  When the month is over, return it with your homework calendar.  Students will receive a coupon for a free pizza from Pizza Hut for reaching their goal and we will monitor their progress in the class.  This is a great way to get students reading every day!

Some papers/activities you will see coming home in their red folders:

Reading:  We are working hard in our reading Groups!  There may be some changes to reading groups.  Please come see me if you have any questions.  You will see these worksheets coming home, so please have your student review these pages at home with someone.

Math:  We will continue exploring with our math manipulatives and begin describing shapes using 3 attributes (color, shape, size).  Ask your student to describe their shapes to you!

Science:  We will continue with learning about seasons with a focus on fall.  We also will begin our talks about trees.

Social Studies:  We will talk about Christopher Columbus and introduce Native Americans.

Reminders…

The awards assembly is Monday, October 15th and begins at 2pm.

The cold weather has arrived!  Please make sure your student has a warm coat on these days.  We will go outside as long as it's not raining or too cold.

We are no longer using the restroom as a class.  They have shown that they know the rules and the behavior expected while in the restroom.  Students need to let a teacher know if they need to use the restroom and then they will take a bathroom pass to use the restroom.

We have had some talks about treating others the way you would like to be treated.  This includes keeping our hands to ourselves and using nice words.
If you could have the talk at home with your student, it would be very helpful.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns please come see me or email me! mlanders@cscharter.org

Thank you for all you do!
