February Newsletter

We are over half way done with the school year!  Thank you to those who met with me for conferences.  I appreciate your time and I hope it was helpful for you and your student.

February is filled with a lot of volunteer opportunities, whether it’s in the school or in the classroom.  We love having parent helpers!

Our Valentine “party” will be on Thursday, February 14th.  We are having the students decorate their box for valentines at home.  We just do not have the space in the classroom to have them here.  Students can decorate shoe boxes, tissue boxes, paper bags, etc.  Decorate one to bring to school on February 14th and it will go home with them the same day filled with nice notes from their friends.  Students may bring valentines on Thursday, February 14th to pass out during the party.  (AM/15 students, PM/9 students)  Please do not write names on the valentines.  Your student may sign their name and leave the “to” blank.  This helps with time.  Please remember if you send treats with the valentines, that we are a “NUT AWARE” classroom.  The parties will be the last 30 minutes of the day.  (AM 10:40-11:10, PM 2:40-3:10)  If you would like to bring items for the party, please be looking for an email from sign up genius for your students’ class.

There is NO SCHOOL Monday, February 18th for President’s Day!

Some papers/activities you will see coming home in their red folders:

Reading and Writing:  We are really trying to focus on “staying in the lines” for ALL writing.  Some papers (reading, spelling, writing, etc.) may start coming home as homework and/or work to be “fixed” because of this.  We are emphasizing that the students need to take their time and be proud of their writing.

Social Studies:  We begin our focus on Presidents of the United States and other aspects of this wonderful country.

Science:  We will be wrapping up our lessons on Animals!

Math:  We will focus on nickels and counting by 5’s, patterns and exploring a new math manipulative.  Tangrams!

Please remember to go over ALL corrected work going home.  Corrected mistakes, which are returned to school, may help a student’s grade and like I tell the classes…”The more you do it, the better you get at it!”

If you have any questions, comments or concerns please come see me or email me!

Thank you for all you do!
