Ms. Robinson

Hello My Name Is...

<Beth Robinson>

<

I am so excited to join the CSCA team this year as a fifth-grade teacher.

I was born in Missouri. My family moved to Longmont, Colorado when I was in the sixth grade. I've been around education my entire life. My father was an orchestra teacher and my mother was an English teacher. They both worked in the public school system.

I went to college in Oklahoma and studied journalism. For many years I worked in the publishing industry, writing and editing educational resources for kids. My most recent editing job was revising a second-grade math textbook for an organization here in Colorado Springs.

Teaching is a second career for me. In 2006 I went to Metro State College of Denver to study elementary education. I have worked as a tutor, a before- and after-school enrichment program director, a first-grade aide, a second-grade aide, and a fourth-grade teacher. I did my student teaching in a third-grade class. This will be my first year teaching fifth grade.

My husband and I have been married for 14 years. I have a wonderful stepdaughter, Merrie, who is married and lives in Lakewood. Keith and I moved from Wheat Ridge to the Springs three years ago to be closer to extended family. My husband’s family has a long history in Colorado. His great grandfather worked for the mining company during the Ludlow massacre and another great grandfather was a tuberculosis patient at the Woodmen Sanitarium here in the Springs. Keith grew up just a mile or so away from the sanitarium in the Rockrimmon neighborhood. We are both fascinated with Colorado history since we have so many family connections!

In our free time, we like to hike and to travel. We love being on the ocean. We also enjoy visiting museums—especially living history museums. Last January we toured Mayan ruins in the Yucatan peninsula. I’m so excited that we will be studying this fascinating culture this year!

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year in fifth grade!
